Husband and wife team, Peter and Paula Davie were looking to relocate their electronic engineering and IT support business from their base in Carradale to a larger space due to expansion and gaining new customers both locally and internationally. Peter, a keen shooter, firearms enthusiast and gunsmith visited Machrihanish Airbase to search for a new premises, only to learn of a redundant indoor shooting range housed in the former Navy SEALs compound.

Identifying the quality of construction of the building, which was purpose built for the SEALs in the late 1980s, Peter saw the potential to restore the range to its former glory and embarked on an entirely new business venture: to breathe new life into this underused asset.

The 25m Hutton range was re-opened to the public in May 2014, after Peter and Paula began their tenancy and extensive refurbishment of the building in October 2013. This now operates as a commercial shooting range and is open to the public three days per week.

The parent company, the Owston Grange Group operates Landrail Firearms Ltd, in homage to the original name for the former Naval airbase site, H.M.S Landrail. As well as being a qualified Range Conducting Officer, Peter has been through the process to become a Registered Firearms Dealer and also offers firearms servicing and repair. The Machrihanish Gun Club has been established and hosts events in the club room providing local shooters regular access to the range and club facilities.

Peter and Paula have also relocated their successful IT and electronic engineering business to the airbase.
