Supporting Our Community

MACC provides support to local groups and charities by offering the use of the airbase’s land and buildings for storage, training and a range of events. Some examples of this include:

• The Mach 1 Stages, a leg of the Scottish Tarmac Rally Championship, celebrated a successful first year in July 2014, attracting hundreds of competitors and spectators alike to Campbeltown for the event. This was hosted in partnership with Dunfermline Car Club and has been an annual event since 2014.

Kintyre Agricultural Society hosted their first Winter Show on site in 2013. The show is a great chance for young people to take part and learn about what it means to show animals and there are calf classes for under 14s and 14 - 25 year olds. This was greatly supported in 2013 and 2014 by the community.

• MACC has provided a venue for the Sound of Kintyre Homeowners’ Association’s regular meetings and Annual General Meetings

• The inaugural MACC Challenge, a 4 mile, extreme military obstacle event, organised in partnership with Campbeltown Running Club took place on Saturday 29th November, 2014. There was huge demand for entry to this event with all 100 spaces being snapped up within one week. This became an annual event with 200 spaces being quickly snapped up by intrepid entrants.

Kintyre Model Aero Club’s fun flying weekends, which are held on the site’s taxiway twice annually, give model flyers the chance to meet and access facilities that cannot be offered elsewhere

Kintyre Motocross Club had their custom built track located on site

Campbeltown Young Farmers have held trailer training and tractor competitions on our parade square

• We are a venue for South Kintyre Sports Council handicap race series

• Jnr Fire & Rescue, Coastguard and Police Scotland training days

• We provide storage to the Campbeltown Christmas Lights Committee, Campbeltown Picture House and Glenside Tractors for their vintage tractor collection

Charitable Donation
In September, 2014, MACC awarded £15,000 to the Kintyre Kidney Dialysis Campaign. The donation was the first of a new charitable initiative from MACC where a donation will be awarded on an annual basis to a chosen local charity. Criteria for this will be advertised annually a month before MACC’s AGM and local charities will be given the opportunity to apply.

Subsequently, in 2015 MACC awarded £1000 to Campbeltown Sailing Club, £2000 to Dunaverty Village Hall, £2000 to Campbeltown Picture House and £840 to Campbeltown Running Club.

In 2016 MACC awarded £1500 to Campbeltown Christmas Lights Group, £1000 to Kintyre Youth Cafe and to South Kintyre Young Carers Group, £200 to Shopper Aide and £140 to Campbeltown Highland Games.

Since 2017 local groups and charities have been invited to apply for funding from MACC. A total of £10,000 was awarded in 2017 and £10,750 in 2018.

As well as this MACC has provided vital storage space to Campbeltown Christmas Lights Group and Campbeltown Picture House and the Base has been utilised for various events including the gruelling MACC Challenge and the ever popular MACH1 Rally.
